Superintendent's Weekly Update 3-4-22
Nichols College:
DHS is partnering with Nichols College to offer our students some great opportunities. A Nichols College course will be open to DHS juniors and seniors, Criminal Law and Procedure, on Wednesday nights starting March 16th. The cost is only $350 for three college credits and high school elective credit. We are joining the Nichols College Leadership Academy, a program to challenge our students to build essential leadership skills while getting to work with students from across the region. Recruiting for the 2022-2023 cohort will start among DMS 8th graders in March. And we are looking at other opportunities to award college credit for DHS Business and Criminal Justice courses, participate in more DECA events, and allow our athletes to shadow a Nichols athlete to see how the student athlete experience is at the college level. We are very happy to enter into this partnership with Nichols College and the opportunities it will provide to our students.
Recharge weekend:
Next weekend is our next recharge weekend. To clarify, we will have school on Friday March 11. This will follow the same format that we had back in early February when we last did this.
Masking:
It has been a great week back to school after vacation and being mask optional for the first time in almost two years. There is a renewed sense of energy and excitement that was palpable in the buildings. Our students have been wonderful as they once again had to deal with another transition. As a community we should all be proud of them!
Test Kits:
Just a reminder that you can still sign up to receive a free test kit every two weeks for your student. Click here to enroll.
COVID Dashboard:
Attached is a link to our COVID Dashboard that will be updated weekly. Unlike last year where I sent our letters every time we had a COVID positive case, I will not do that this year. This Dashboard will provide you with weekly numbers by building. We will continue to reach out to close contacts and also to families if they have been exposed to a presumptive positive student.
Respectfully,
Paul Vieira, Ed.D.
