Superintendent's Weekly Update 12-3-21

“The Douglas Public Schools offer diverse learning experiences that meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional needs of all students. We provide a safe, supportive, and challenging learning environment in which students may achieve academic success and personal growth. Decisions are made in the best interest of students.”

Vaccination Clinic:

I would like to thank the Douglas Board of Health for helping organize a very successful vaccination clinic this week. We had every time slot filled and were able to offer vaccinations and booster shots to 131 residents. We will have a follow up on 12/20/21 for people to receive their second shot. I hope to be able to offer another clinic to students, staff, and the community after the first of the year.

There is also a COVID for ages 5-11on Wednesday, December 8th from 2 pm – 6 pm at the Northbridge Elementary School. Please use the link to register.

Safety Precautions:

As we come out of the Thanksgiving break, head into the Holiday Season, and with the discovery of a new variant, it is important to review our safety precautions. Medical experts are predicting a spike over the next few weeks. We have seen numbers increase both at the local and state level the last 3 weeks. Please remember that if your student is symptomatic or living with someone who is symptomatic (and unvaccinated) they should stay home until they have been tested. I do realize this is a burden to families, but it will help keep staff and students safe. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

COVID Dashboard:

Attached is a link to our COVID Dashboard that will be updated weekly. Unlike last year where I sent our letters every time we had a COVID positive case, I will not do that this year. This Dashboard will provide you with weekly numbers by building. We will continue to reach out to close contacts and also to families if they have been exposed to a presumptive positive student.

Respectfully,

Paul Vieira, Ed.D.

Superintendent
