Superintendent's Weekly Update 3/5/21

 Hello,

Thank you to those parents and community members that attended the School Committee meeting on Wednesday. On Monday, March 8 at 630PM I will host a community forum on our back to school plan. The presentation will be similar to the one that I presented at the School Committee Meeting on Wednesday night, however as we have seen throughout the pandemic, information changes daily and there very well could be new information presented. The presentation will last about 20 minutes and the remainder of the time will be dedicated to questions from you. Below is a link to the Community Forum.

Additional Forums:

I have asked principals to set up building specific community forums to be able to share with you building based plans on what a full return to school plan will look like and to also be able to answer specific building based questions. These will take place over the next week or two and dates will be sent out shortly.

Surveys:

Over the last two days you have received two surveys from schools; one on your plans to return and the second on transportation. Please make sure these are filled out by the end of the day on Sunday. We need this information to finalize class lists and bus routes.

Pooled Testing:

Next week you will receive information about our pilot pooled testing program that is scheduled to start on March 22. This will allow us to test students on a weekly basis for COVID with your consent. The letter that will be sent out will outline the process and provide you with a link to consent to the program.

Pandemic of Kindness Story:

Michael Osterholm of the Osterholm Update started a site called "The Pandemic of Kindness" to celebrate acts of kindness during the pandemic. Each week he chooses one story to read on his podcast. He receives hundreds of emails weekly. One of our high school teachers sent in a story about a member of the Junior Class. This story was selected as the act of kindness for this week. If you scroll to 56 minutes you can hear the on Episode 46 of the Osterholm Update. I am very proud and we should be equally as proud as a community.
